this is a random aircraft I did...the pen sketch is not the best but that is not my concern at the moment.
Its when i try to paint the surface, material It just doesnt go my way. The surface just seems to flat and soft. I got the feeling that one of the problem is that I am simply toning the colour lighter to darker, I wanna squeeze in another colour between the fading but not sure what would be natural...or should I not?
It looks like a soft rubber aircraft, I want it to look harder, and maybe more worn. I know I havent got any details such as eventual plating which would emphesize the shape and material. Should I maybe work with some reference photo at my stage instead?

actually Im not looking to make a 3d object, just the drawing. But there are nevertheless some very good advices in the tutorials you linked so thatnks alot!

I am considering buying some dvd from gnomon to help me out. I had a look at 2 dvds my friend had. one of them was brilliant and the other one horrible, I dont wanna spend that money on something that isnt gonna help me, so if anyone have bought a dvd they think i could use give a comment!
I was thinking about:
http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/rch06.html
http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/rch03.html
http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/rch01.html
(this is starting to sound like a random cry for help, but its hard to put the finger on what I want to learn, I might not even know it for sure myself!...I guess practice is th only way...)

Do a simple Web Search with the keywords "Shiny Metal Tutorial" and try some of the different techniques, like this one (http://dogsfather.deviantart.com/art/The-Shiny-Metal-Tutorial-74417218), to find what works best for you.

ANYTIME you want to learn how to do something, try a Web search, and use the word "tutorial" at the end. Many times there are already step-by-step instructions for you.

Another helpful tutorial, thanks!
But im not sure how to apply it. Why im posting this thread is that Im not sure myself what I need to practice or do. I was just wondering if there was someone who recognise the stage im in and have some ideas. But as you say cybr, i probably just need to dig up some tutorials and work work work....
