Is there anywhere were I can find tutorials / tips for ground texture shaders eg grass, dirt, sand, gravel?

I have played around with fractals for displacement and bump maps but anything approaching acceptible causes horrendous render times.

I think theres not an easy fast solution but....

you can

1) use mixture of photo based textures mixed using LayeredTex node
2) procedurals textures again blended together via LayeredTex node
3) use external sw for generating textures/displacement maps (Zbrush, GeneticaPro, Vue)

The rest depend on your will and skills...
