Hi everyone, is there a way to make something unravel in max? Like unrolling a sleeping bag or something? I've tryed playing around with some bend modifiers, but I cant seem to get anything to roll up in a cyclindrical shape; the bend modifier doesnt roll it towards itself, it just rolls through itself. any help would be greatly appreciated! cheers!

Hehe cool. You know The Frozen Throne comes out in a week right? :applause:

Can't wait to see those cinematics.....

hehe yeah, i saw them on a dodgy e3 camera, pretty bad quality recording but bloody awesome cinematic; illidan with the horns and wings and everything, and the naga looked cool too ! cant wait to see it full quality!

hey i think this 'motor' in reactor is what you were talking about? i cant seem to get it to get on rolling.. hmm i think reactor is not really the answer im looking for though; I'm after more control than a simulator, but i'm dreading an enormous IKspline!

whoa nope i dont think its the motor! sent my test object spinning off into oblivion.. hmm perhaps if its only applied to some of the mesh.. but i dont think it can be applied to subobject level.. hmmm

Use a path-deform modifier.

listen to the man above, for He hold the answer.

An alternative: Shouldn't be too difficult to make an IK-spline either, if you're looking for maximum control over how it rolls and whatnot. Set bones to IK Spline, create a whooole bunch of bones down the sleepingbag, make a sufficient number of control-knots, and possibly that would do the trick.

Path-deform sounds easier to me though.

Anyway, seperate from that I got to thinking about how interpenetrations could get ugly as you rolled it up. And I was wondering if perhaps you could use SimCloth or something similar to avoid those? Set to no gravity, no friction, SimCloth might be useable to get those pesky verts to deflect off of eachother. Idunno, it's just theory..

Try using a pathdeform to roll the object up, and then take a snapshot of it, and run a simcloth or reactor sim on that. Attach some weights, or pull on the end, and it will come rolling down. The whole setup should'nt take more than a few minutes.

did you try and animate the center of the bend gizmo as well? it'll work.
