Heya,

I was trying to attach 2 surfaces and its basically a trimmed NURBS ball/sphere (a small portion of it was taken off) and an extruded circle (forming a distorted cube...). Anyway, they almost perfectly fit because I used a duplicated isoparm from the sphere to create the cube.

Now I am trying to attach the two surfaces but it won't let me. I also tried selecting the sphere's bottom isoparm and the cube's upper isoparm (which are supposed to be the attaching point) but the program won't let me select these isoparms either (like it wasnt a valid isoparm or something). What's going on and what should I do???!! :annoyed:

(I was able to select the indicated 'isoparms' with the 'lines' subobject selection, but it still wont work)

hard to say. could you be a little bit more precise ??? take a look in the command line. maya will tell you whats going wrong.

OK, lets do this step by step.

First I made a sphere (NURBS). Then I made a plane and placed that plane intersecting the sphere. Than I trimmed the sphere and deleted the plane. Result: a trimmed sphere (a little more than a half sphere).

Then I selected the middle isoparm (in the sphere) and made a duplicate (a new curve). I used this new curve as a profile for a path curve (I made separately) and extruded it. Result: a large funny cube.

Now I want to attach the sphere over the cube (in the cube's top) and it shouldnt be hard because the cube's radius is the same as the radius of the hole in the end of the sphere. Did you get it so far? ;)

Why cant I attach the two surfaces??? Is it because one of the surfaces is trimmed or something else??

couldn't really follow, but some little things

of course you can attach a trimmed surface, but not from the trimmed edge from (only from real isoparms)
if you see the attach node in the channel box after you attached something is wrong with the settings. attach is a realy BAD thing
thats why so many modell in studio tools (because it's the weapon of choice in modelling)

thats what i can say so far. mabe you can attach an image with wireframe on !?!?
