View Full Version : Tab for smooth mesh just like in wings 3d?
Levitateme 06-23-2003, 09:45 PM switch from low to smooth poly? Im sure there is a plug in or script for this? i could just assign it to my tab key or something for a smoothed version of my model? i havent messed with wings that much, but i know this is a helpful tool. what would be better is if there was a tool that when you model on a poly surface you could have like a proxy cage, but see the smooth results. then if you want you can switch back to your low model by pressing the key again? it would be amazing if there is somethign out there like this. thanks everyone

with proxy mesh you just turn on/off the layers you want visible...or isolate select and use a 2 pane split if you want to have both at the same time....

I saw someone at highend had done a script for this. Through mel he assigned a hotkey to the smoothing so he were able to switch it on/off.
Though he didn't post it as a script .. just made a post .. and I don't remember the link ..
but it's there .. somewhere ..

hi sric
well, i wanted just smooth switch. will this actually subdivide my model, or do i have a option?
The script actually converts your model into subdees. Then when you invoke it again...... it converts your model back into polys but with any changes you made while in subdee mode.

There's my switchSmooth script in the mel sticky: just bind to a hotkey to toggle smooth on/off. It's just a quick hack but it works pretty well

How does zzToggleSubDee.mel work along with bindig?
Can I bind and animate the poly mesh and turn to subdees when rendering and then back to polys again?
Thanks.

I don't know....I've never tried it. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. It also works with Nurbs. Here's the author "Hamish McKenzie www.emissionpossible.com".
Hey just get the script and try it out. I was just reading the header and noticed when it does the conversion it deletes history.
Cheers
