View Full Version : Light Tracer + Self Illumination problems

Hello people,

I have a problem:

I have a scene that I render out with the light tracer (it's some cars), only lighted by a skylight, and a black floor (matte). That gives me a certain effect I am trying to achieve.
BUT now I have three planes above it (white, 100% self illuminated), which causes the ground to become grey (because they give out light) in stead of black and gives out a lot of noise too (not sound, but artefacts :p). How can I make something 100% white, but not give out any light when using the advanced lighting stuff from Max 5.

Thanks heaps for thinking along!

PS: Please only refer to the question asked, the solution does not lie in the material of the ground or anything, the only solution to my problem is some way to exclude the planes from not emitting lights.

See: http://www.onnovanbraam.com/temp/porsche/racing/fukc.jpg < it's grey, it should be black!

*Edit:
Okay I have tried two things:
- Downloaded a different Matte/Shadow material from http://www.footools.com/plugins.html , this didn't work.
- Properties of the plane > Geometric Object Properties > Receive Illumination

Both with the same results: no shadows. Updates to follow soon.

**Edit 2:
Problem description:
'The fault is that it's not possible to NOT let certain objects be calculated in the light tracer solution, since it automatically assumes you want it to shine light on your scene when you self illuminate it.

Well hello there! ;)

I have a solution for you:
Go to the properties of all the illumination planes > unclick cast shadows and receive illumination. Voila!

Hehe, always great to find a solution yourself.

PS: Pardon the schizo stuff, that happens when you Max too long. It's a new feature of Max 5.
