Any movie with Edward James Olmos

NOOOOOOOO!
I KNEW this was gonna happen.
They wiped out ALL the appeal of the original series, the myth, the connections and innuendos to ancient mythology, Egypt, Greece et all.
Even the pilots lost those cool Pharaonic helmets in exchange for some Babylon 5 headcans!!!
Now, itīs just Space Above and Beyond all over again, right down to the everyday names like Roslyn and stuff.
Geez, the magicīs gone. GONE!

The appeal that the original BSG series had was the comraderie between Apollo and Starbuck....and how Starbuck was the womanizer, and Apollo was the conservative family guy....how the hell are they going to do this now with a stupid, politically correct FEMALE Starbuck?? That right there is STUPID AS STUPID CAN BE!!!!! Just goes to show how our society has become infatuated with pretty faces as opposed to good character development. :thumbsdow :shame:
Im very dissapointed in Sci-Fi.....Stargate SG-1 is awesome, and a host of other shows are really good.....but this is absurd from the beginning and doomed to fail. I dont think I will even watch the pilot episode. I stand here in protest....who's with me!?!??! :annoyed:

Iīm with you, Greekdish , the whole appeal for me in the original series was the mythology; Glen A. Larson drank from the book Chariots of the Gods to write a saga about 12 lost Tribes of Man that spreaded across the stars in ancient times and after meeting genocide at the hands of the Cylon, look for refuge in the mythical Earth, home of the 13th Tribe.
It was AWESOME, the epic, milenar feel/flavor of the series gave it an untimely taste- you couldnīt tell if it had happened thousands of years ago or if it was happening right now!
I loved it.
THis... this thing?
Ew!

Edward James Olmos, one of the best actors ever! Good to see him in a leading role in a remake one of my favorite old TV shows.
Yup, I have to agree...Im a big BSG fan(have been since I was 10 yrs old...LOL now 34). This new one looks like a rehash of the Wing Commander movie.

Wow, I was kind of holding out hope even after hearing about all the lame changes and the plastic looking vipers, Olmos can be a pretty badass dude, but bleah. Double bleah. Not doing it for me at all. I bet they hacked the story to pieces. :hmm:
I bet they had to lose a lot of the egyptian theme due to Stargate, but still, why THAT look? It really is like they raided a Babylon5 rummage sale. The original BSG pilot jackets are still one of the coolest looks ever, and the robes and everything else definitely added to the mythic feel. I totally agree on the storytelling elements, and the dynamic between Apollo and Starbuck from the original, too. If there was any sexual tension between them it was at least unintentional. :p
Oh well. I've become disenchanted with pretty much every sci-fi-channel original production...the fact that they seem to have the same cinematography, lighting, and music, on every single thing they do doesn't really help me like it either. Hours of arthritic steadicam, desaturated blurry images, and weak videogame music take their toll on my willingness to watch.

For those in the LA area, the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood will be showing the original Galactica theatrical feature on August 23rd.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Glen Larson, Richard Hatch and others.
Enjoy!

While that is a nice sentiment, Stargate is NOT A SCIFI ORIGINAL SERIES.
They can keep saying it and printing it on screen, doesn't change the facts.
They have a track record of killing great series. Good vs. Evil was the first one that sent shivers down my spine. Funny, original, just found its footing, poof, gone.
Then Farscape. Granted, it is a 50/50 split with scifi fans when it comes to if it was a good series or not, however !! and I quote the vice-president of programming ala SCI-FI Channel with regards to the cancellation of Farscape....
"We're not about shows like this. Our current upcomming line of programming conveys what we are trying to achive." Yes, he did in fact say that when asked why.
So, Scifi is more about Crossing Over? Or that psychic dream sex analysis show that got canned?? Running star trek over and over is a no brainer, now you have those viewers, lets see, how about a town infested with worms that never want to leave. Wait throw in some named actors whos careers must be in the toilet since they want to work on this, and poof, tremors.
My wife and I actually started to dread when Stargate went from Showtime to Scifi. So far we are holding out, but honestly, that is the only show we watch. And as far as the mini dune series, well, bleh.
I love the books, even have an audio copy on CD in my car. The 3D was very well done, but the acting and translation lost a huge amount of what the book(s) were about. Typical SCIFI original series crap, stuff in as much as you can, as long as it has a spaceship or two, who is gonna notice story?
I digress.... BSG looked/sounded great. The more and more FAQ and forum questions/answers I read, the less interesting it sounds. Hope they do well, I will watch the pilot most likely (as with dune [ which we didn't even finish the 3rd part it was so boring]), but alas, the true art form of filmmaking ( story ) has seemed to take a backseat to all things computer graphics lately (don't get me wrong all things have a place).

 Without G.A. Larson's religon based mythros its just another SciFi movie. Worse then that it takes something powerfully defining in its genera and trashes it by ripping its heart out and tossing it down the drain. It would be like rewritting the history of the Earth by taking the dinosaurs out of the picture. Granted the models and some of the graphics are pretty but I don't think I could watch something that was such a core of my childhood and destroying those memories. I have a copy of the original 2 part movie and think I'll just stick with that!

Hang on a minute...let me get the story line straight...
In the original series, they ended it where the Galactica got to earth, right? Right.
Now, I take it that this series is set many years after the last episode of the original series? Right? And that Earth is now technologically advanced to start building BattleStars, Right?
Is that why we have names such as Jill, John, Barry, Old' MacDonald etc?
Right?

Nope, they dumped the entire classic series and started from scratch, retelling the whole story from the top but dumping the whole mythological facets in favor of a more plastic approach.

Greekdish, what the HELL are you talking about?! I like the idea of a female Starbuck womanizer.
Now only if they could hook her up with an Erin Grey (http://www.stuart.cann.freeuk.com/eringrey.htm) lookalike.

What the hell am I talking about??? Starbuck as a woman is stupid. Erin Grey was a hottie as Wilma...but Starbuck as a female is stupid....oh yes, and Starbuck making out with Baltar is really good too, right???

Erin Grey:drool:
OK now that would bribe me to watch it. I was so hot for her in Buck Rogers. But man that also was more then a couple of years ago. I don't think she would fit the young, throbbing, hot, part they would need to that.
