View Full Version : Ethnic character (modeling)
Nicool 06-23-2003, 04:52 PM Hye,
I going to finish this bust which will be use to try to enter in a great art school (called Supinfocom in France), I'm 18. He is a young man from my world ;o. I'm working on his clothes note I want suit to be made in a large frabic.
I'll try build good shader for different material (as dirty cristal for the jewels, neoprene/velvet for his suit, marteled gold for buttons...) to render it whith MentalRay or a Renderman render from Maya4.0. I like code in *.sl, but I've not a good *.rib exporter (liquid works on maya4.5 only) :(

nice moddeling job, i especially like the statue feeling of the second pic.
the piece of clothing on the first pic looks a bit off though, way too 'fat' and low detailed to put under that face.
again, very nice job on the face!

Thanks, I'm near good modeling for the head:cool:
For his coat, it's near the desired effect! Sure I've to work on it again, but I want a very large material for it. I think with shader (neoprene) and a better lighting, it would be accepeted:rolleyes:.

Here is a pic near to the final result. I'd prefer have translucency, I thing now ;). Fish roughly modeled in maya NUBRS.

Hey, I really like the composition with the red fish. The fish almost looks like a flower. Maybe you could tweak the eye (move or remove the highlight) and mouth of the fish, currently it looks a lot like an 'anime' face and does not really fit the rest of the image.
I would not use a different material for the earrings if the rest of the buste is going to be one material. If you are not going to texture the model, then I would at least add some details to his buttons and accentuate the separation between his face and hat a bit more. You could add some ornaments or a band on the edge of his headgear for example.
Can you move your light a little bit (or add more lights) to show more of his facial structure ( like in your previous renders) ? Not sure there should be a bright highlight on the inside of his collar...
I like the new collar of his cloak, but again you could add a seam or ornaments to finish it off, especially at both ends.
keep it up !

I like the modelling job so far. I would love to see it with textures though, it has potential.

Thanks for your comments!
I'll follow you advices given in your complete analyse Marc. Yes, I saw the pb with the light which light the inside collar; I'll fix it. Their is a pb too with the hat. For, fish, I've to finish it, and you're true, He doesn't fit to the scene.
Dimitrios, for this pic, I'll not put texture (maybe if it's needed for translucence channel in future render). I'll render it using a translucence aspet "like" snow (not like candle)
And I'll make the diamonds more visible (by emitting light themselves).
