hey guys. I'm new here at CGSociety. I'm a digital artist by trade, but I must admit I'm inexperienced and I'm just now really learning to push myself beyond my comfort zone. I'm trying my hand at digital painting (as opposed to anime cell-shading like I'm normally used to). I'm in the early process of the attached work. I really want to find a why convey really strong emotion in this piece w/ color, contrast, etc. Especially in the main heroine. Showing the anxiety, fear, and anger all together.

I would like to get feedback on the pencil work first. Composition, anatomy, etc. Also, I'm going to try and make the characters faces look less anime as well (I know it doesn't right now), I'm I'm going to try and used the attached reference for the main characters face as well.

Anyway, thats enough of that. Feedback much appreciated. Thanks in advance

btw, how do you attach the images? I don't see where thats an option. I'll be using an image hosting site till then. haha.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES!

800 px wide is more than enough.

my bad. Images resized. Once again, I would appreciate any feedback. Also, here's my first attempt at painting and trying to do a sample face for the main character. I was really happy w/ it when I first did it, then slept on it, and woke up the next morning not so impressed. Feeback here is appreciated as well.

the colors you have chosen are horrible. She looks very dirty. Also try to be more subtle with your shading. The image has lost all of its contrast, there is only highlight and mid-tone. The black of the reference is gone. She is rather flat. Hope it helps.

You have basic anatomy issues of mouth too small, arms too short/too long, and the almost ubitquitous inconsistent lighting.

Try looking carefully at the shapes of the shadow patterns. That might help you some. As for the anatomy, there are basic proportion "cheats" that you can use to keep things in better proportion.

thanks guys. I knew it was riddled w/ problems, just helps to have another set of eyes, especially more experienced ones. Thanks for the help, I'll post replies once I have something else.

EndoTouch - What types of things would I do to make her look less dirty. Is it mostly in the contrast? Or is it really the color choice. She should have a somewhat of a darker, indigenous skin tone.

Cyber - I'm actually touching up on my anatomy as we speak, got that book 'Dynamic Figure Drawing' by Burne Hogarth.
