At ZBrushCentral we are extremely pleased to have been able to put together an interview with the art team behind "Gears of War 2" for the Xbox 360. Chris Perna and his team really went all out in answering our questions and providing an unprecedented amount of artwork from the game -- including a huge number of WIP screenshots that you won't find anyplace else.

You can read the interview here: http://www.pixologic.com/interview/epic/1/

"Zbrush allowed you to push your model detail to a unreadable level!"

That's it! Putting a lot of pixels doesn't mean you are making something good!
That looks so impersonal as artworks, so cliché... and the worst, not even good!

In fact, it remind me the first ages of Zbrush in 2001/2002, the era of the bumps and gaunts except now it's just a bit more detailed.

I agree that some previous Titles by Epic had gone way past the line of detail and into the realm of over detailing but a lot of the overdetailing was because there was just too much fine details in both colour and the shape detail. I think its much better controlled this time around. there are more solid blocks of colour which define larger volumes, while there are also larger forms which have subtle details. gears of war 1, and unreal tourney 3 fell prey to the normal mapping technology, so lets hope that from now on forward the art directors will use the technology where needed, and not abuse it.

I hope you aren't agreeing with me because I only partially agreed with the negative poster. The general meaning behind my post is that they are improving in art direction because it seems to be more considered than before.

Epic work! Its quite amazing what Game Engines could do in the modern world. The results are very realstic. Who knows what may turn up tomorrow.

Absolutely fantastic! I can't get enough of this game, and of course it's always so cool to see shots of the assets like this. Congrats again to all the talented folks at Epic.
