Hello everyone, I am new here so first off I would like to send out my greets to everyone on the board and wish you all a great day!

Secondly I would like some help with a texturing problem in 3d studio max :)

The idea is to have a metalic texture with holes in it. I would like to see through these holes in my rendering(and Only the holes minds you) .. I am having troubles because when I create the texture in PS with a transparency layer where the holes are it just shows up as white in 3d Studio.
Now, I have tried to also fill the holes in black and then put my texture in the difuse color, the difuse level and the opacity which has gotten me the best results however I still end up with a slightly transparent metal as well as transparent holes..

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Cheers

Well gee wiz! I just figured it out.. Been struggling with this for a day now, and 3 minutes after I post this question It comes to me.

Well for all of you that might have this problem I will explain the way that I did it now.

First of all make your texture in PS or whatever you want, do not put empty spaces for the wholes instead fill the holes black.

the you will need to make a second texture for the transparency map.. On this on leave the holes black but the rest of the texture either erase or I imagine painting it white would work..

then in the material editor put your first texture as the difuse map, as well as the difuse level map, and then as the opacity map put your second texture that only contains the black holes(the rest of it will probably appear white)

this should work, as it worked for me! Happy texturing...

Oh and I should note that if you are making a texture this way light will not pass through your object and cast shadows on whatever is behind it, for that you will need to actually cut holes into your surface.. Or at least as far as I know you will have to..
