Hi all!
Here is an unfinished version of my creature called "Karlak" (don't ask me why)
The model 's wire structure still needs some cleaning, and I have to finish the whole body... pffew, still lot to do!
But I would love to have your comments on this WIP model, here are some renders/screenshots!
You can view the concept here:
2d concept (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67252)

Thanks for your comments:beer:

Very nice man, looking forward to seeing the entire character done.

Congratulations:thumbsup:

Freakin' hell thats a complex model. Beautiful, but complex. I sure wouldnt want to paint weights on that monkey.

Hope you got the hardware to handle that monster.

Kudos on the look of him though. He's one scary moFo'!

Hey thank you so much for your kind words:beer:
I am working on 3 things (personal works) at the same time so it would probably take me a long time to update this thread, sorry :hmm:
When this heavy polygonal model will be done (one day), I will refine it in Paraform, surface it in NURBS patches, extract displacement maps, so that rigging would not be too complexe(I hope).
Thanks a lot for your feedback

what do you mean ? can you explain a bit more ?

stuzzi

hi zegritch!

I like the expression, and the life you bring to this creature.Maybe to much expressions..?I mean that i could be better to model a neutral expression of his face in order to have a easier rigging then...

I'm totally agree with the nicool's coments. The fold on his arms ain't credible enough in opposite to the sketch you did before.do you decide to change the design,or the folds are not finished yet(héhé it's a wip).

good job as usual ;)

Excellent concept, cool modelling, great details; I agree with the arm-fold critique. I also think that the arms are too thin so far for this big beast.

Hi all! Thanks a lot for your feedback, I really appreciate it
For the arm folds crit, I will keep it in mind when I will refine the model in Paraform ;)
Here is a little update on the arm/hand.
Cheers

Yikes! Oh my!

Looks exactly the same as my neighbour !...

..but your model has much more friendliness in its face.

That looks very cool! Very unique look and super scary, I love those teeth!

Nice to see what kind of beast it is with textures...

I will try to make a flexible skin, with much more folds.

so what does Paraform allow you to do?

do you get the displacement maps from Maya or Paraform?

don't blame you for going that route! that's what they did with the Cave Troll in LOTR. should render pretty quick eh?

I really like the pics on the first page, there is already so much character and movement in this guy!

Hi all!
Thanks a lot for your kind words on my work (very encouraging)

Cyborgguineapig: Thank you so much, I am very happy that you liked it!

Joss: Paraform allowes me to add details on my models, and to build NURBS patches from poly models, then extract displacement maps to be rendered in Prman.
Paraform didn't exist when Weta made the Cave Troll. They wrote a proprietary maya plugins to extract displacement maps from their Nurbs patches made in Power Animator from scanned data.
And yes, MTOR/Praman renders very fast Nurbs patches+displacement maps ;)

dimitrios_c : Thanks a lot!!!

Eugeny: Thank you very much for the compliment but OMG I wish I knew only 1% of what Weta 's people know!!! I feel like a very little junior every time I see Weta worshop/digital 's work.
I wish I could work with them one day, as I still have so much to learn from those people.

Thanks a lot all for your posts!!

Jeez! It looks like Paraform is the shit! is there a limit on the poly detail it can generate?

I saw some of the high-detailed nurbs meshes on your site Pascal and wanted to know if that was the use of the displacement map?

Soulstorm

Hey thanks a lot for your kind words!

Joss: Paraform can handle very easily multi million polygons model(as it's a reverse ingeneering tool and works usually from scanned data)
I usually use subdivision poly meshes as a base meshe then i add displacement.
Soulstorm: Thanks a lot, I use Maya for modeling.

Here is a little update... As usual comments are welcome !

Just some amazing work.

My only feeling, (not a crit, cause this is awesome), is that he looks so menacing and like he is kicking some major ass, but with all that gut and skin folds, he would be very slow and his enemies could get away pretty quick.

Just an observation.

PascalR

Hey DAREONER: Merci Mssieur! Il faut que je le convertisse en NURBS maintenant (le mesh tel quel fait 1 Million de polys).
A+ Dare!
Klaymen: Thanks a lot for your kind words! My favorite monsters are Rancore, Cave troll, Balrog and Tetsuo terminal phase :)
Thanks a lot all !!

Thats why i couldnt see why it was looking familiar, because it was a mix between several familiar monsters.. expecially the mouth i see now looks like the rancor mouth, and the horns are from the balrog.. very nice work, that model would send my cpu to the heaven of old burnt-out computer parts :-)

Shit Pascal its awesom man..............my jaw drop down......................one thing l want to know more about ur technic to convert ur poly into nurbs..................Est ce que tu utilise geomagic ou quelque chose comme sa pour convertir en nurbs ? et est ce que tu utilise ton mesh en polygon pour faire le displacement de ton model en nurbs une fois converi ?
J espere que je suis clair etk J ia hate de voir ton reel .................
T as jamais penser a venir au Canada?

Tomaya: Thanks a lot man, I am working on it!! I still have some patch problems to solve, but I will post the mesh when finished :)

Your work is very characteristic :applause:. I was just wondering how you manage to get that particular look (surfaces with bumps and glue-bridges and detailing)? did you design your own program to import the basic models into? Sorry for all the questions, I'm a frikkin nOOb to complex modeling. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated, Ta :)

Joli Pascal très joli. Tu ne pourrais pas un peu plus m'éclairer sur "Paraform" et ou est-ce que l'on peut avoir une version de démo car je trouve cela bluffant :O .Encore bravo!!
