View Full Version : Any good coolers for ECC FB DDR2 Memory
animationguy2100 01-01-2009, 06:26 PM I have a new 8-core Xeon (Harpertown) workstation I am building but I am looking into finding something to keep the 8 dimms of ECC FB DDR2 memory cool. I have googled relentlessly but could not find anything except the ASUS Memcool. I only other solution I can think of was getting a case that blew air directly over the memory. The Coolermaster Cosmos seems to do this. I want to hear other people's experiences and/or solutions on cooling ECC FB DDR2 memory. Thanks!!!

What makes you think youll have problems with the heat of memory? Ram overheating is a pretty rare problem, in most cases youre fine just leaving the chips completely naked. Anything designed for high speeds or overclockers typically has heat spreaders on already.

Fully buffered memory generally runs very hot, not a problem in most cases. If you want mount a fan over the modules. Cheap and effective instead of mounting coolers directly to the modules. There are lots of products like this one out there:

There are also lots of tutorials out there for rigging one up with a spare case fan. Cheers!
