Title: “He's Out There Somewhere”
Name: Ron Crabb
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop

It took forever but here's the second in my “Illustrations From Untold Stories” series. At this rate I'll have enough for a book when I'm ninety! The idea is to create an image that evokes a story and to leave it up to the viewer to fill that in. It would be great to open these up to a short story writing contest, choose the best three for each image and publish a book with twenty or so images and the stories. Ah, dare to dream. I best get crackin'!
Feel free to crit. On “Keep a Sharp Eye” i got a number of crits that I ended up implementing. It's always appreciated! See my CG Society portfolio for detail images.
Hope you enjoy!

Wonderful work. So many interesting elements there to look at, and search meaning for. I think you succeded in your mission. The strange thing is this river and waterfall - though gigantic in scale it seems, there is only desert around? Have you tried scaling the water doen a bit to strengthen the barren dried out look? Anyway - great stuff, I tink it was wort the effort!

Good observation! I pondered putting a little foliage along the river like you would see in the Grand Canyon but then decided (since it is some other planet or moon) to leave it barren. Since this is supposed prompt a story it then begs the question—is there something wrong with the water? or maybe the soil in this area? Maybe that shiny canister on the dino is for purifying the water? It also implies there is some really good reason they would risk crossing through such a barren place.
Anyway, it just this kind of thought and questioning I hope this image prompts!
Thanks!
Ron

This is just Wonderful! I thought about ridding dinosaurs all the time when I was a kid and this painting you did brought all my memories back of how much I liked it. Great Job I hope you succeed in all you do.

great work, takes me back to the days when Sci-fi/fantasy illustrations took you to a whole other world.

And I thought I am a detail freak! ;) Excellent, old-school SF illustration! I can point out some very very tiny imperfections (maybe a little artificial looking moons and a bit too green-ish looking sky for my taste - perhaps a more blue/cyan one would work better here? It may also make the foreground elements stand-out more. Or am I mistaken?) - but that will only be a nit-picking which will keep you from doing more and we don't want that! ;) Congrats!

Love the retro sci-fi book cover feel you have to this one. Five stars from me.
