View Full Version : Mac G5 wont start
Hi.
When I turn on my Mac, the start up sound comes on and the fan
revs as if it wanted to fly away and thats it.
I tried reseting the Pram what ever that is but it does'nt work.
My computer man is off work till late next week so I had a look over
at the apple support forums but found no answers.
Anyone else ever have this problem and if so, how did you sort it.
Im fairly sure Im not going to find the answer here but what the hell.
Cheers.

do you get an icon of some sort after some time ?
It could be it can't find a boot drive, I would think that the fans are controlled by the OS and not by the EFI itself, therefor it just revs up to max.
The icons you can get it something like a folder crossed out (No boot drive found)
if you have OS X Disc put it in and see if you can see the drive in Disk Utility.
or when you boot try holding down the ALT key to see if it finds any boot-drives.
The screen goes black with no folder.
I tried inserting the OS 10.5 disk but no luck.
I'll just wait till my computer guy gets back from his break.
I have a laptop to work with till then.
Cheers.

Aaaaaargh I feel your pain... had a few mac dying on me before I swith to pc. Loosing all your stuff is pretty traumatising! (weird cause my old old Mac SE still work very well!!)
Cant say anything except a big good luck!
I have to say I have been very lucky with mac over the years.
It turns out it's my Graphics card is fecked.
It was the graphics card fan that was revving like hell.
The computer guy came out today and told me it might
have been my old usb hub that did the damage.
It gave us both a shock when we went at it as
it seems to be sending power back through the computer
which could have fried the graphics card.
I will know for sure tomorrow when the computer guy gets
back to me.
The joys of working with computers :argh:
Cheers.
