Are there any galleries/tutorials out there of GI interior stills and animations done with some of the Renderman compliant renderers out there (especially Pixie or 3Delight) ? I'm looking for something like this piece from the Brazil gallery:

http://www.splutterfish.com/sf/gallery_view.php?photo_id=241&screen=2&cat_id=2&action=images

I'm sure there is a way to calculate and store photon maps so they don't have to be calculated for each frame of an interior animation; I'm just looking for a bit of a pointer on how this is approached.

I read some of the Siggraph papers on GI in Renderman; one seemed to be more focused on setting up ambient occlusion and one was more oriented to doing 'skylight' style renders. I'm just looking for that pretty glow of sunlight coming in through a window and I don't mind some programming to get there

The Pixie homepage has some code fragments, so it's a start. I'm just curious if there are more good resources for this niche out there.

Thanks,

Eliot

There's a chapter in the Pixie docs called 'Global Illumination' which has all the info you should need. Let me know if anything in there is unclear.
A practical example is found in the ex3 folder of the Pixie distribution. It also shows how to use irradiance caching.

Regarding 3Delight, I admit that the info is a bit thin. Maybe mail Aghiles at mailto:info@3delight.com and keep buggiing him -- this might help.

Cheers,

Moritz
