I'm taking my current computer and giving it to someone but I want to give it a better graphics card before I do.
I'm trying to buy the best AGP video card (old, I know) without under-utilizing it's ability with a slow CPU. Is there a way to determine if the power of a card is WAY more than what you're CPU will ever use?

(You know how a video card can only utilize as much info as the cpu can throw at it? Eventually the cpu isn't fast enough to pass any more information to the gpu. Basically the gpu has more power than it will ever use with my slow processor. At that point there is no reason in getting a gpu faster than the cpu can handle. So I'm trying to find out if my Athlon64 3500+ has enough speed to utilize the full power of a 3850 or would a slower card (3650 or 1650PRO?) serve it just as well.)

Athlon 64fx 3500+ 1Gig RAM windowsXP SP2, currently with a AGP Quadro 1100

I did this for a ~4 year old machine recently, went for a GeForce 7600GT (AGP model) - would recommend it.
Should be very cheap and it was pretty fast when it was new.
gpureview.com is pretty helpful to compare card specs, but mostly its up to your wallet.

i don't know if there's a convenient way of figuring out when its out of balance like your asking. Would love to know if there is tho.
