I'm relatively new to using dynamics in Maya. I'm trying to make a Christmas ornament attached to a string drop in from above and slightly bouce and sway realistically. I found this tutorial

http://www.webdesign.org/web/3d-graphics/tutorials/animating-a-flying-baloon.3386.html

showing how to attach a balloon to a string, but ran into a problem midway through after parenting the Goal Curve (copy of Curve1) to the string. It says the string should follow the balloon/ornament when it's moved but it doesn't seem to.

Also to achieve some bounciness, will I need to use Spring Dynamics as well?

For the record, I checked out Gnomon's Spring Effects DVD but the effects seemed too complicated for this job.

Thanks very much.

I haven't checked your scene but you may find it easier just to use a rigid body and a spring constraint rather than particles and springs. If you dont need your string to bend and flex Id go with that.
