Well here it goes, my first VFX challenge. Came across this the other day and just had to have a go.

I'll have a castle and a small village in a mountain setting, in a snowy environment, where a camera moves from the mountains to the village and castle

http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/2536/firstrendersq2.jpgI'm currently working on lighting and materials for the castle.

Time will tell how far done i'll get with this...

One of the reasons I really want to do all the work myself on this one is that it provides me a great learning experience, not to say that I now have the change to make it just the way I like it.

Anyway, I finished the castle and it's material and internal lighting stuff.

On to the village homes.

And a happy new year to you all. (only 30 minutes till midnight here)

Ok, Rendering this is becoming a fatal disaster. After some way too long render sessions I discovered what I think is a bug in blender (though I'm searching for the info needed to confirm that) that causes shifting of the snow in my node material that automatically changes the upwards pointing faces to a snow materials while leaving the others untouched. Seems like normals are changing with my camera. This effectively makes it unable for me to finish this in time.
Better luck next time.
