First off let me say you've got a really nice model to start with. I love the shin guards, they look great. Here's what sticks out in my eyes:
It looks like you modeled the skirt to be made of leather with metal studs (or whatever you call those things) on it. I'd make sure it stood out from the metal bits by coloring it brown or black. Keep the gold scroll-work though, they look cool. The blood splatter stains are way too red. They should be more like a dark maroon shade. The gold beltbukel and front of the helmet are too smooth. I'd sharpen the spcularity, and add all sorts of scratches, knicks, and dents. Gold is a soft metal so it'll get pretty beat up in battle.
That's just some c + c of what direction I'd go in. Really nice start though. I can't wait to see more. good work.
