I saw it some months ago. I like the art direction but found the movie actually rather dull.

It's hard to penetrate the american market. The movie looks amazing, but as soon as you cannot hit the shelves in North America (I mean find an american distributor), you just cannot get the budjet to equal the quality of american studios.

Producing something as beautifull as this movie is a real challenge... thank you MacGuff.
Just too bad for the story, Americans have a real knowledge in building and narrating stories.
Times will come :)

though not available on dvd in the usa or uk as yet it is listed on amazon.fr, a friend has it from there and it also has the english sound track.

He say's the film is really good including the story and voice acting [english]

looking forward to seeing it come out on uk and usa dvd's soon.

my guess on the uk and usa dvd's availability wil be after the academy awards have wrapped up as it may be a contender/win one and they'd like to put that on the box artwork to help move more dvd's.

I saw it some months ago. I like the art direction but found the movie actually rather dull.Agreed, The story is just way too Saturday morning cartoons. Do we really need the dumb sidekick character that speaks in that voice we can all do ala Lilo&Stitch, JarJar, Sid(ice age)?

Also it looks really nice but that almost hurts it for the subject matter. The animation should be way more cartoony and exaggerated like a cg version of Dragon's Lair/Space Ace. The designs of the characters are great. They just needed to make the face and body more stretchy. The mouth movements are way too subtle.

I kinda like its subtlties. Looks great, the story isnt to heavy or too light. I think what hurts it is the unusual forms of dragons, and the non stereotyped "hero" whos more hun than round table. I still love the work and Is the first thing Ill probably buy next year.

just watched the french DVD of this film with the english soundtrack
[borrowed it from a friend who got it for xmas]

amazing!

fantastic visuals, great story and finally some different hero/villian characters
in a film from your "normal" stereotype's that hollywood dish out from dreamworks/pixar/pdi and disney.

the scenes and sets are just Beutiful...great modeling, lighting and art direction.

the floating scenery reminds me of another french 3d tv show> skyland

each scene looks like a masterwork of art.
such fantastic lighting and mood, closest thing it reminds me of is "voice of a distant star"
in which every scene looks like a perfect painting balanced and a wonder to look at.

wow.
loved it.

probably the best looking film of 2008

I must say I was a bit disappointed that the characters are in 3D. The TV series was mainly looking 2d (although it was a mixture of both, IIRC) and the characters were very charming that way.
The whole look was very classical - I miss that.

I can't tell you, because the previews I have seen on the website is the only thing I have seen from the movie.
I will surely watch the movie, as the series was my favourite animated series for a long time, but just from the looks of the teasers I felt that the unique look of the series was lost.

You can get an impression of the "original" look here (and get an impression why I loved the series as well...:D ):

wow!..from that clip from the tv show i'd say the film is way better written and voice acted
the tv clip was just 'loud saturday morning toons'..of course it's a clip out of the show so its out of story line..you don't know if this is like this the whole show .

anyhow having not seen the 2d version ive not missed anything myself with the film [dvd]

i might pick up a 2d dvd as it's on amazon.com just to see how it pans out, from that clip you posted it looks like all 3 main characters [inc girl] are in the show and the little blue character is just abit over the top and too loud in the voice track in that scene...

i'll get the dvd though and see how it works out

'loud saturday morning toons'

Oh yes, man, I think it absolutely was. But it had this added extra flavour of excellent storytelling.
Like I said, I'll definitely watch the movie.

Just saw it.. Story is ok.. not bad.. only a bad ending imo.

The Visuals are crazy! I thought it looked so freaking good, I kept saying it out loud through out the movie.

I recommend it. It is really different from your average American 3d flick And imo it's for the better.
