ambrosia software use cinema, they produce high quality shareware (when i say high quality i mean very very high quality), though mostly not realtime 3d stuff, more pre-rendered sprites, going back to the good old days of 8 & 16 bit shoot-em-ups etc only now with decent graphics and sound. anyhow, they're at www.ambrosiasw.com

however if you're into mod's etc then remotion has an ASE and T3D exporter for cinema for free download at www.remotion.de.vu that you might wanna check out.

there's no good reasson why not to use cinema for games work, apart from the fact that 3d max is so entrenched in that market. but you use whatever you want really. provided you can get the models into teh game engine it doesn't matter one bit.

Maxon needs to get things into gear and start working on game support for Cinema I thinks.

Gee, I want so much more for film and tv work before they start looking at games if you ask me.

vestanpance pointed this thread out to me.

Ya, I've been using C4D for games for the past 5 years! I love it! If you want examples of work, you can see them here (my old company site): http://www.digitalmanipulation.com/frameset.html Most of what I do is for realtime 3D now (I'm dropping major hints to upcoming release now. I'm working like a dog on real time 3D artwork for Ambrosia Software now... I was also one of the artist on Pangia Sofwares "Cro-Mag Rally". If you have any further questions, let me know.

Wow! That was like one of my first jobs! The only piece of art I did was the main ship of the game. They wanted me to redo it because the original ship looked too much like a feminine pleasure product! :P

Hey and I just recently like a few years ago played Bubble Trouble. Very good game and addicting. I would have never known that these games used Cinema. Although Ambrosia software titles are fun they arn't really what my interest is. It is good too see Cinema atleast in use for games but what I was really hoping for was like First Person Shooters and action games. Like the equivalent of an Unreal 2003 with cinema 4D. This what I mean by Cinema lacking in the "big" picture.

But I also agree with FXgogo, you are right sir, Maxon should first keep it simple and stay true to concentrating on 3d 3d. Game implementation would be a second step and wouln't hurt Cinema publicity wise.

Since I have lightwave at school... When I had this mod idea floating in my head...I created a handful of models in cinema, then exported to lightwave, and then imported these models into the game engine.

I think thats the only way to do it:shrug: But who's gonna invest in buying both Cinema and lightwave packages to make a game? See thats my point.

You could make your own engine and code to simply use Cinema for a game, Bah I wouln't know.

why did you need to export them to lightwave to bring them into the game engine? cinema has pretty good exporters to many formats, and there are plugins to allow you to export models for several different engines. which format are you after?

Well I mean for the game Serious Sam for example, a special exporter via lightwave is required to brink models into the ska. This is why I had to export to lightwave to use a lightwave plugin to get my cinema made model into the game.

you mean they supply the lightwave exporter with the game? hmm, maybe if you ask one of the plugin developers they might be able to do something for that. maybe samir, or paul everett, or the ditools remotion guy (does anyone know who this guy is? i mean, i'm in contact with him and even i don't know who this mystery man is... well whatever he's doing amazing stuff, but he could be worth a shot as he's already done exporters for other games engines).

It does not matter. .obj is just one of the many formats that can be used. You can export using that format to make models and textures for "Unreal Tournament" or ANY other real time 3D game. It's just the geometry and the UV points tied to your texture that need to be retained for use in any game. Unless your talking about animation. then you start getting into the thick of things.....

Anything that is application specific for a game engine is usually "middle-ware" and not really used by an artist at all... Except for graphics management applications or the like.
