View Full Version : SimCloth: How to make 'tension' ? Example included.

Ok, I'm at the stage where I seem to be only making 'silk' cloth, where the dynamics are very 'soft'. But I want an 'elastic' cloth look such as :

The 'cover' part.

So what I tried to do is to make the support frame of the cover, then just make a simclothmesh and drop it down. But first problem is that I cant predict how 'big' the cover will be. And second problem is that I can't create the 'tensions' and rigid points as circled in Red and Green.

Can someone assist me in how to replicate this?

To be honest, I'd model the cloth in that situation.

You'l spend far more time trying to get that effect with dynamics.

That is not to say that you can't run a sim afterwords, but I think you'l save alot of time just doing it the old-fshoned way.

yeh, i tried doing it by polygons, but I cant seem to get the right effect. Can you tell me or link me to a tut that has clothing? Or I just need to see a wireframe of a similar cloth structure.

What i did was make a cut where the fold would be, then protrude it up abit, but it doesnt look very good :(

You could try to model the frame and then animate the edge vertices of the cloth to pull it over the frame instead of dropping it on to create the tension.

Here is an example of using Reactor to do that:

I don't see any values used, so it might not be of any serious use.
