Hi All,

So we're in for this new challenge :D

we're a team of 4 French speaker guys from 3dscool.com

For myself, I'll do all the VFX and perhaps the compositing as well.

The Banner will come later.

I'll show you a first preview I m working on, maded with primitives and particles.
During this time, the crew is working on the models.

http://www.aespid.com/temp/FXWARS/Prev_05/Prev_05.html

When they finish it, I'm going to transfer all the vfx maded on the preview into the final scene.

I hope you will enjoy this wip.

Good luck to everybody and Merry Christmas. ;)

Looks good!

My immediate feeling is that the castle and the mountains are too seperated.

IE, in the beginning you have castle ONLY, and then you have mountains ONLY, and then in the end, you have castle ONLY, again. :) Combine the two and get a much cooler shot.

Greats mountains, though! Do you have a height map, or did you sculpt it in Mudbox or Zbrush?

Cheers,
- Jonas

we made a new storyboard.
I'm not sure we'll finish it in time, but even if it would be later, we'll continue to show you our work in progress.

While everything looks fantastic, I think this might be missing the point of the competition.

This is supposed to be an establishing shot not a full action sequence.

By throwing in all of these other items, it is changing the scope of the entry. I am not sure if that is good or bad thing, I just think that if you continue on this path, you might put others at a disadvantage because we may be overwhelmed by the pretty stuff happening and all others are doing the simple establishing shot as required.

I have been working myself on this for some time although I have not posted an official thread yet (struggling with Realflow). So I am speaking from a fellow competitor viewpoint.

Just my two cents,

Wade

Well, I'm pretty sure "too much material" won't get anyone disqualified. :)

How much time you need?

The brings up another question. I can't remember what's the deadline for this thing?

holycause
01-09-2009, 05:54 PM
we would like to finish it for the end of February.

I think we will have between 15K and 20K frames/passes to render :buttrock:

Ok how about an extra week holycause?
Would that help?

Thanks Roberto, but it would not be fair for the others.

And even a week would not be enough.

But I was wondering if it could be possible to move the topic into the WIP/Animation forum (http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?f=153) when the challenge finish?

raylistic

holycause: good idea. That way we can encourage people to keep working on. Even then we can have a WIP comments and grading session.
