Hi there,
I've whipped together a simple character for animating in XSI, but I have run into a little trouble with loading and saving animation... It seems that when I save the curves into an action it's fine but if I save that out as an .ani file then re-import it onto the character the arms don't work quite right....

The difference with the arm is that I am not using a seperate object to be the main controller, I am just using the Box(or null) from the end of the arm chain. I am thinking thisis part of the problem, but I would like to keep it this way so that the FK/IK switch still works nicely.......

So if anyone has any thoughts?

double click on the action in the 'explorer' and save out the action by clicking on the 'save' button'. This will save out the action and not a *.ani file which is a bit different (more like a plotted curve).

If it's IK/FK movment on the arm, make sure the upperarm has a keyframe on the first frame, otherwise some wierd flipping can occure.

I hope this helps

forgot one thing.

Lets say it's the left arm that you want to transfer animation on.

Select both chains, the control object for the hand and the upvector. Also select your IK/FK switch (the name so that it turns yellow).

Now open up the animation editor.

Select all the F-Curves the chose Store -> Animated Parameters - Fcurves

this will surely save out all animation as a clip. Then double click on the clip and save it to where ever you would like to have it.

Thanks man! that's excellent!

I thought the save function in the property editors was just to save settings for those particular properties. I'll give it a try.... Sounds like it might be quite a bit nicer than the .ani format
