I was just hoping someone might have a solution for my problem.
I installed photoshop in a new computer that I just got.

I'm not sure why, but whenever I try to create a shape, like a circle or a rectangle, photoshop will not just create the shape. Instead, it creates a whole new layer, complete with a vector mask attatchment.

I'm not sure,..but I don't think that this is supposed to happen.

could anyone lend me some suggestion.
thanks alot

If you are using PS7 then this is expected behavior. All the shapes are now created as paths (of which you can tell it to fill them or not). And these paths are created on a lew layer (by default).

If you need some more help with them just ask away

Look in the toolbar across the top.
Near the left there are 3 different buttons.
Each button with "lay down" the custom shape or polygon or whatever in one of three ways.
I believe they are in no particular order:
1. Filled Region
2. Work Path
3. Shape Layer
Try using a different method than the one you currently have selected.
