brasshorse 06-22-2003, 06:57 AM I have a bit of free time, so I'm entering again. Here's some quick thumbnail sketches. I'm just playing with costume ideas, etc. right now. I'll post more sketches as I get them done.

Oooooook, since I'm doing 2 or 3 characters for this challenge, here's another one of them.
It's basically a mascot-style character idea named Godo. The game setting would be a jungle/island type setting with various places to explore, etc. Typical 3D platformer. He uses his staff to attack/defend, yadda yadda.
He can fly, grasp with his tail, and jump around doing platformer stuff. Fun fun.

Poo..I won't have time to finish my first character (see thumbnails above). I just got a ton of stuff to take care of all this week, so at least I'm too busy for a good reason. Thanks again, everyone :).

Somebody's got a lot of computer-buddies methinks!!!:thumbsdow

hmm?
Create an icon of a character or that one standout level or vehicle of the quality that we would find in a truly excellent game intro or cutscene - the kind of stuff that makes you drool in anticipation to play the game or get to the next level. We're talking about jaw-droppingly cool characters, vehicles and environments.
Do take note that for this Classic Challenge, you do not need to create an entire scene with posed characters and action and all that - you just need to create the character (preferably posed, because it just looks cooler that way), the vehicle, or the environment, and render them to a standard that is befitting of a kickass cinematic.
Walking Carpet, you seem to not know what you're talking about, methinks!
Cool piece, are you going to develop the other character some day? This one has a great style, and a very successful colour scheme. The blend between reptilian, mammalian, and avian characteristics is fantastic!

oh boy, there seems to be alot of these 'what the hell' posts going on:p
I too like your entry brasshorse. You created a well designed and thought out character. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the next comps to come.

Out of ALLL the entries i personally think that brasshorse's entry fits EXACTLY perfectly 1000% the contest details!!!!! Its just perfect.. ORIGINAL Awesome colour , Nice shapes, good amout of detail, nice silhouette. THis is the type of character you see becoming the next Mario, Yoshi , donkey Kong.
Most entries including myown do not have this level of professionalism or even the look of being finished! IM not just saying that because i know Brasshorse but because the proof is in the entries. and brass' s entry is clearly the most original jaw dropping concept. Not to name names but when designing a Character you should obviously include the WHOLE figure in your concept and not cut out HALf the body out!! Brass did that and he went the extra mile and created an opposing view of the character to give modellers more detail to make their job easier!!!! This character prooves ready to me made into a game and be modelled!
Now all this back talking and back stabbing is pretty damn Pathetic. ANd GOOD thing that this isnt a popularity contest and who has the most computer geek friends win. If that would be the case we Clearly can see who the winners would be. since ive seen some entries go up 25 points at the time! Crazy stuff.
I trust the Judges will be the Deserving entries!!!! Because they are quite evident who deserves them!
I def think this is the best entry
completely fits the description and he even did a character sheet to show the full character...
no offense to the people the other entries but most of them would never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever even be considered for a real game. Come on.. a nude girl with a claw? A guy with a gun in a wheel chair? These just seem... childish... beavis and butthead almost.
"huh huhuh uh uh how about a game where you have sex with people and shoot them".
Aaron's design shows creativity, originality and works as a real game character.

i said it once, and i'll say it again. this time in big bold letters.
dont take any guff from these swine.
if you dont win, then its clobberin time.
The thumbnails show the developmental process of thought; I like them. Being a hardcore gamer, I'd love to see Godo in a game, waving his staff! Great work :applause:

ap0c: Thanks man. Glad you like it. The first character I did the thumbnails for will be fully developped for a seperate sort of spare-time project thing I have going on. Hopefully it'll all turn out well.
sandcrawler: Thanks very much.
Kirt: Thank you Kirt.
Apt Pupil: You've been a good sport all this time, and thanks for the support.
plouffe: Dude, can't thank you enough. Thanks for speaking out. You make all the effort worth it with all that appreciation :)
davi: You're a smart man, Davi. Well said, and thanks.
fell: Thanks soooooo much brother. We all know cassels will conquer soon.
togusajr: :buttrock:
sic1: Thanks man.
I'm a very busy person, so forgive the lack of an extensive backstory. It didn't seem to help at all in the "Races of Middle Earth" challenge, so I didn't focus on it this time around. I tried to get the best possible design down that would fit the description of the challenge as closely as possible.
In entertainment design, you don't generally write the stories, so I just did my job and got my work done as fast and efficiently as I could. Hopefully I succeeded, and from the general response, it seems like I have.
Thanks to everyone who spoke out, you know it's appreciated.

Aaron, you always out do yourself with originality that's for sure, and just like your other pieces, this one shows alot of thought into the character design as well, would've love to hear more of a background though. As for you line work, it's some of the most consistent I've seen here. Keep up the solid effort bud and get somemore entries into our gallery ;)
Everyone just take a step back and relax, this challenge wasn't setup for the "winning" it's all for fun and growing your skills, they're no winners or losers here, only favorites.
Have a cool weekend

Man that thing is begging to be made in 3d... I hope someone will attempt it.
You got my vote for sure, great work.
It reminds me of a less goofy version of the monkey buird from pirates of dark water (and if anyone remembers that cartoon, you get a gold star)
