Title: Almasjed, The Mosque
Name: Ali Almasabi
Country: USA
Software: BodyPaint, Digital Fusion, Maya, mental ray, Photoshop, Renderman
Hello All,
I just graduated from the University of Colorado Denver with a Bachelor of Fine Arts emphasis on 3D Graphics and Animation and a minor in Multimedia and Motion Graphics. Here I posted a CG video piece called Almasjed. I'm working on my reel right now and looking for a job ;).
Almasjed -meaning the Mosque in Arabic- is a humble attempt inspired by Arabic and Islamic Art and Architecture from all around the world. The Arts that always captivates me for their highly detailed designs and patterns that cover everything from clothes to paintings to furniture to buildings. Mosques are called the houses of God. They are sacred and spiritual places, lots of art work and detail are put into making and maintaining them. People go there to pray and seek peace and get mesmerized by the beautiful art.
The making of Almasjed
All modeling, shading, and cameras were done in Maya2008.
Lighting was done also in Maya. I made four different light Rigs (day, night, inside and outside) plus the MentalRay PartiVolume fog light Rigs.
Digital hand paintings and image manipulations were done in PhotoshopCS3 and BodyPaint3D for texturing. I have more than 153 different texture maps compiled in 36 Photoshop files including: color maps, specular maps, transparency, displacements, bump, and incandescence.
Rendering was done in both RenderMan and MentalRay with different passes such as: Beauty pass, Zdepth, Specular, Diffuse, Shadows, Fog, and Ambient Occlusion. The average rendering time was from 20 to 150 minutes per frame.
All were composited in 19 different compositions using Fusion5.2 and Adobe Premiere Pro.
I spent countless nights making Almasjed and with out those people who supported me I would have never made it. Thank you all.
