Title: Rays of Hope
Name: Ryan Ruchty
Country: USA
Software: 3ds max, mental ray, Photoshop

This is an old prison cell. I got the idea because a friend of mine visited Alcatraz not to long ago and I wanted to model an old prison cell. It was modeled and textured inside of 3d studio max. Please feel free to critique the texturing and the lighting.

As far as the lighting goes, I would have preferred a stronger contrast ratio. I think you should have kept the fill a little on the darker side. That is my opinion on the lighting.
Texturing looks good.
Keep at it!

hi ryan,

textures look pretty good, self-made or resourced?

the lighting needs some work but good start. the most noticeable problem is that the objects don't cast proper shadows. even objects that aren't in direct sunlight would cast shadows from indirect illumination. try reading up on ambient occlusion, final gather & global illumination.

otherwise great feel & concept! cheers

Thank you for your helpful critiques. I had a few omni lights in there casting shadows but I didnt think that it looked right with the beam of light that was shining in on the chair and the stool so I took the shadows off. I guess I could have excluded those objects from the certain omni lights. I have a very large library of textures that I have gotten over the years from different teachers and other students. Again thank you for your help.
