This is called an easter egg you must have triggered it by accident..

"To find Merlin the Wizard, hold down the Alt key and select Palette Options from the Layers palette menu (). Unfortunately, Merlin doesn't do much – the lazy bugger! "

Yep!

There is another in the about screen just hold ctrl+click in the about and you will see the Liquid Sky.
