Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Chris Hawkes

These are roughs of initial concepts I was playing with. Galactus, Conan and a heaven and hell (satan on throne) scene.

I decided to go with a heaven and hell theme and started playing with some background imagery to try and see if I liked the feel. I liked the mood and decide to move on to the characters...

After roughing out several versions of two characters the piece just seemed to be divided and satan just kept looking to similar to Hellboy so I scraped the idea and moved on.

I still wanted a biblical subject so I did a quick marker comp of Cheribum guarding the tree of knowlege of good and evil(or tree of life) and liked where it was going....

i did some thumbnails of Cheribum to see if i could find a pose i liked better than the original but stuck with the more iconic look of the original rough.

Marker rough of steampunked tree of life. I like the direction... onto assembling the scene as a whole and doing a color rough..

Pen and marker roughs of Cheribum character. Not sure how much of him I want to detail out before final peice. Takes away all the fun sometimes.
