View Full Version : Template/Selection Shading

I want to make certain objects unselectable or locked off from regular viewport selection.

For example planes with my rotoscope drawings or a mirrored instance.

I have been using the template function, but the problem with this is that you lose hardware shading/texturing.

Is there a way to make objects templated yet maintain their shading/texturing?

Or is there another way to make object unselectable?

Cheers

Put it in a display layer and set it to reference.

Cheers, that works!

One problem is that if I make my instance object referenced/templated, then I can no longer select the original.

I like to work with half my geometry and an instance/mirror on the other half.

Am I using the wrong type of instance?

I just go to Edit> Duplicate> Instance with a scale of -1 in X

How can you tell your instance from your original, besides using your memory(not the one in your computer, the one in your head), the icon is the same in the outliner.

Here's the reasoning behind my silly questions: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67783

Oh yeah that is screwed up.. what you can do is select both objects and open the hypergraph and hit the show all connections button.. (looks like a starhip) and you will see a node for th edisplay layer.. just select the connection between the original and the display node and hit delete.

I should write a MEL script or something for this.. anyway..
