View Full Version : granade effect
Borgus 12-21-2008, 12:18 PM Hi guys!
finnaly i've watched cloverfield. i almost coulnd't wait until the end of the film to play
with maya dynamics :o)
today i started to create a small hand granade effect and thats where i am...
you can adjust the amount of sparks, main and secendary smoke, individual gravity for
each typ and build-in wind. still everything is "hard-wired" but i'm working on a script to
add the effect-network to selected objects.
the granade detonates when it slows down, but want to add a time based detonation
method. c&c is very welcome!

p.s.: i didn't care about the shaders yet.. :o)

Hey Sebastian,
the link isnt working ?! or may i mistaken ?
ok Cool 8]
EDit:
so after watching , i think it could be a bit more explosive at the beginning.
i know its really hard to fit the rigth timing , but espacially thats what it makes
looking realistic, so try to push the sparks with more power and it should work.
and by the way , what doest it mean "hard wired" - its some kind of asset, where the
user has control over a few dozent attributes like speed, timing and such stuff ?

ups, typing error :o) fixed it

Hi heavy!
i added a few controls to the granade transform node. the animator can control
the duration and speed of the explosion, amount of particles, lifetime etc.
i wanted to make it as controlable as possible so you can tweak it for your needs.
i did'nt work with assets yet...i just wrote a lot of expressions and linked a few attributes.

Hi there! I worked a bit on the shader and changed the speed of the sparks.
the script is still in progress, its harder than thought. :o) .o0(maybe someone find
it usefull)
granade test 2 (qt, 3,66mb) (http://www.trimage-arts.de/borgus/granade_test2.mov)
hmm, after watching a few times i think the sparks are still too slow... what do you think?

Hi Borgus,
Thats looking good so far! I would probably add a bit more heat to the initial explosion which burns out real quick and maybe add some glow. Also the debris needs a little bit more heat too, ie a value of 10 for example on the orange chip.
Otherwsie looking good.

thx for all your good hints! nice to have a community where you can get good, constructive
comments. yes, the glow is definitely missing, but i'll add the glow later in fusion.
i worked on the heat thing and come to that point below. now it looks much bigger and more
destructive. tomorrow i gonna render a sequence for testing..

here's the last rendered sequence. with more heat it works better.
