View Full Version : Importing two rigs safely into a scene
blenderhead 12-20-2008, 02:54 PM I'm just wondering about the workflow I should use when setting up a scene in a software package (3DS Max, Blender, Maya; mostly Maya!), because I know that often due to naming conventions, constraints and the likes, things can break in rigs if you try to have two copies of the same rig in a scene.
Sow how can I safely get two copies of the same rig(or even two different rigs) into scenes in the packages mentioned above?

I dont know about other softwares but in Maya ,you dont actually even need to import the rigs into a scene. You can reference the rigs into your shot.I hope this helps.

So I just go File-> Create Reference and then navigate to the rig file?

Yes, but you will want to always keep that rig in the same location with the file because everytime you open that file it's going to want you to locate that rig file. Referencing is good because it allows you to make updates to the rig without forcing you to start over or going through the hassel of copying animation keys from one rig to another.
