I think I'll try a Narnia style White Witch castle. A few establishing shots should be a lot of fun :arteest:

I'm hoping you're using your matte painting skills for this. For this topic, I'd wish I was a matte painter. Good luck!

Thanks.

Actually, yes it's going to be pretty much exterior matte painting and camera mapping. I'm just starting to work it out in my head and write some stuff down.

Pics to follow soon :)

Had some free time today, so I took a shot at painting up a castle.

So much more work to go :bounce:

Thanks so much :)

I figure I should update with something. Here's what I'm going for, it's a rough sketch, trying to find the mood and colors and good mountain shapes.

Can't wait to put the whole thing into motion, get some snow and blowing trees, camera mapping etc.

Happy new year!

the castle painting looks really well done,it would be nice to see some more architecural elements mixed in amongst the ice.
is it photo based or straight painting?..looking forward to the animation

JB

Thanks Stefan.

Adding more architectural elements is a good idea, hopefully I'll have the time to add extra details.

There are a lot of photo elements in the castle, as well as painting.

OK, here's my first go at a composite of this. I made some changes to the castle and have lots of weather elements added, and some blowing trees.

That looks great. Reminds me of the never ending story for some reason.

The motion of the trees distracts the eye. I think you need to balance the flow of motion in the frame. Maybe add something moving on the other side. Maybe make the fog roll across the fields slowly or something.

Maybe add some flying birds to help define the depth and scale.

Thanks mustan9 :)

The fog is rolling, but I guess I should speed it up a bit. I was thinking of adding a person walking toward the castle entrance.

Another update :)

I've added more fog/atmosphere, sped up the fog, and I'm working on the person walking.

Thanks Terry, Stefan :)

Stefan, I used Vue for the trees

jussing
02-04-2009, 07:52 PM
JB - WOOT, you can render animations out from Vue without flickering?? I don't know ANYBODY who's been able to do that.... Vue is the flickering machine from hell (of doooom!).

Anyway, it's looking real good!

I guess flickering has been reduced in Vue 7, but I did use high quality settings and let it render overnight, as well as scale it down in the composite and soften it a bit with camera blur. :wise: :D

Thanks :)
