View Full Version : Animating a train???
mattis 06-21-2003, 09:04 AM I have modeled and textures a locomotiv with many wagons and now it's time to animate it. Does any one have an idea how I can make the train (which is many seperated objects) follow a nurbscurve path. Should I use bones, driven keys, motion path ect?
Thanx

1 Place the pivot of each of the wagon and the lokomotiv at the back and choose for all the same height.
2 Now attach each of the wagons and the lokomotiv seperate to the motion path. Only the lokomotiv should be attached with the FOLLOW option on. The wagons will be oriented later.
3 If oriented wrong, adjust the orientation in each of the motionPath Tabs in the attribute editor.
4 Select the motionPath. In the attribute editor go to the Tab that attached the lokomotiv to the path. Press with your rightMouse on the UVALUE field (orange field) and choose for UVALUE>OUTPUT
5 Change the start value to 0.1 and the end value to 1.1.
You see the lokomotiv has shifted forward a little. Now continue this for the remaining wagons. Try to figure out how much space the lokomotiv has to be shifted so the wagons can fit between.
6 Now all is placed on the motionPath you will see the lokomotiv behave well, and the wagons are not orienting towards each other.
7 Now select the lokomotiv and then the first wagon. And AimConstrain the two. If oriented wrong, adjust the orientation in the aimConstrain Tabs in the attribute editor.
8 Now select the first wagon and then the second wagon and continue till you aimConstrained all the wagons.
Make sure not to make the bendings to sharp, cause else they will behave very strange. Good Luck !!

Hi,
I am working on a similar project - my problem is how to make the wheels follow the tracks in addition to the train following the track
And how do I make the smoke come out of the engine at the top and at the bottom.
Thanks.
