View Full Version : Object: H&K G36-C Assault Rifle

Made in Maya 5.0, rendered in Mental Ray, post-production in Photoshop.
Render time: 1:26:31
I know there are a few inaccuracies, such as the lack of a foldable stock, and the front grip is a little small, but I figured most wouldn't notice them.
Anyway, I hope you like it. Comments/crit appreciated.
I'll also be posting a version with a silencer pretty soon - just gotta render it.

Nice, tried to model the hkg36 myself long time ago ;)
Would like to see a wire of that!
A little criticism: the render is completely inappropriate, its a weapon, you cant render it in a shiny, white, heaven-like environment. ;) Its also way to blurry

Ya, wasn't sure whether to post that version or the darker, unphotoshopped version.
Here's the darker version:
As for the wireframe: http://www.cgrenaissance.com/images/NewGallery/G36Cwireframe.jpg

not to be mean but their are alot of inaccuracies. Not to mention how much better it could look if it had a nice texture. You certainly used alot of polygons and they dont sho to well.

Alright, I'm sorry, there are a lot of inaccuracies.
Let's see what I can find... hmmm, needs a rubber butt plate. The scope attachment is wrong (I hadn't seen a scope attached to a G36-C til recently). Although barely visible, the screws/bolts above the front shaft need to be a bit larger. The little part sticking out right under the weaver rail isn't right, but I'm not sure quite what it's supposed to be (haven't gotten enough perspective shots, only profiles). Didn't realize these until you said so, thanks.
Looks like I have some work to do, I guess the admin may have to move this to the WIP forum, if he thinks he should. Sorry admin, I thought I was finished. If you can't move the post (I don't know the administrative capabilities on this board), then just delete it, I'll post it in the WIP section. A good tip to write up in the posting guidelines page would be to get "approval" in the WIP section before adding it to the Final section, IMO.
Any other innaccuracies I missed? Although, like I said, people who haven't carefully looked at an image of the G36-C before wouldn't see them, don't ya think?
As for bad textures, I guess - I don't have much experience in texturing.

its not bad
magazine is a little short though (add another inch and holding brackets)
the stock has too much specularity - I haven't that particular weapon in awhile, but no weapon I have ever seen has ever had a very 'sharp' specularity - needs to be diffused about 70 percent
bunch of smaller inaccuracies
btw...if you need detailed drawings to go off of, check out the periodical 'Janes' not sure of the web addy, but its what us military ppl use to learn about the latest and greatest, as well as the older stuff.........

Alright, thanks for the tips - ya, really need to make the spec more diffuse. Is 'Janes' just janes.com, cuz janes.com sure seems like a military magazine.
Hehe, I haven't even fired a rifle before - man, I REALLY need to get out more.
Couple of suggestions:
- The gun seems to be made of at least three completely different materials. I think the G36C is more or less one colour.
- The stock is quite bumpy.
- The side of the gun is quite dark... I can't even see if there's a fire mode selector.
- The magazine could be more curved.

Ya, good points. I'm gonna change the stock and scope to the same material as the rest of the rifle. Not including the magazine and bullets, there should be four materials here: the main material, the rubber (butt plate and grips), the gas piston (which protrudes out the front), and the barrel.
Before, I didn't realize that the mode selector is on both sides, I only modelled it for the other side, but I'll put it there.
I also realized that the thing under the rail is the cocking handle, how stupid of me!
Wait, can anyone describe to me how a scope would be properly attached to a G36C, I've never actually seen any images or anything of it... I've only seen images of a G36C with a red dot sight, which I assume would be different.
EDIT: From this point on, post on this thread, in the WIP section...

Well, been a while, meant to post this a while ago. This IS the final version, I stopped working on it long ago. There are still quite a bit of inaccuracies, try not to crit on those (as I realize what they are) unless it really bugs you.

looks better now
