A friend and I have come up with a candidate vehicle for the "X-Prize", which requires the launch and retrieval of a space vehicle into low-Earth orbit. Naturally I am carrying out the design work with C4D, so I thought I'd post a pic here.

We are currently looking for sponsors, if anyone's interested in supporting us.

Thatīs cool - if you need a test pilot just PM me!

So - how much beer did it take to come up with that design? And be honest now!

Rather worryingly we weren't drunk, we were at work at the time, discussing the X-Prize instead of highway maintenance like we are supposed to.

We initially came up with the "coiled spring" propulsion method and went on from there.

I'll post a bigger pic when it goes on the website this weekend. I might actually send it to the X-Prize site, too, see what they think... :-)

I guess the inspiration is Heath Robinson? (for the non British members here, William Heath Robinson is an illustrator of demented genius famous for his impossible inventions. See sample here --> http://www.basilisk.co.uk/various/heathrobinson.jpg

By the way, I think the spring is a bit too highly engineered looking. Couldn't you make it a bit more wonky like the one in the image linked above?

Nah, obviously his inspiration came from Apollo 13. :p

Great job, I love it...!

LOL! Great Heath Robinson pic. I'll look at doing that, it should look good. Yes, I suppose is it pretty Pythonesque. It helps that both of us are as mad as a bag of badgers.

I'm working on an animation of the launch...
