View Full Version : Maya and Sound
Dudeman 05-01-2002, 02:44 AM I've been doing some investigation and it seems that I can only insert 1 Audio File in the timeline. So if I have a dialogue between 2 characters I can only get feedback on both of the characters if both character's voices are in the same file. Is this true? If so, this would be a great improvement for the next release.
I would like to have the ability to figure out my timing with this flexibility.

I dont if this will help you a great deal but heres one way to think about it. With sound, I think its best to add it in after rendering, ie, render out an image sequence and then put the two together in a video editing package (any old package will do). This way you don't get any wierd compression stuff going on with the sound. If you do it this way then you can block out the sound by putting the sound files together (say in cool edit, if you have the demo that is) and pop this into maya. This way you can put a smaller compressed version into maya and leave a large uncompressed sound file ready to composite in afterwards.
This probably isn't what you want but as i said, this is only one way to do it, I'm sure theres better ways.

Thanks guys.
I think you answered my question.
The reason of my question post was the utilization of a second party program (LipsInc) which applies lipsyncing to a character from an audio file. Therefore I can do only 1 at a time.
So what I'm going to have to do is take a dialogue between 2 people and cut it up into individual persons. Then apply the plugin. Put into a Character Set/Clip and then use Trax Editor to composit the 2 characters and then bring in the uncut up dialogue audio file for reference.
This is for in-game cinematics. So there would be no reason to apply audio to a movie.
Thanks again!
