View Full Version : Sachform??
hmmdonuts 06-20-2003, 10:30 AM Has anyone else ordered HDRIBase Volume 2 from Sachform?? I ordered mine a while ago, just after it was released, then had an email from them last week stating that they were having problems (with their printers, for the cd covers) and so wouldn't be able to ship immediately but haven't seen or heard anything since....
I'm getting impatient now!!
cheers

Last time I checked, they were expecting to ship any day now.
Sit tight for a few days, it'll be worth the wait - good quality product from a friendly, professional company

Can you give us a little info on the product? Web site, cost, etc? HOw does it stack up to Dosch?
TIA,
Kevin

You can find Sachform at http://www.sachform.de/
They offer 2 volumes, each at $99, or a bundle for $189.
You can also choose between HDR or the new OpenEXR format - or bundle both for $139.
Each volume contains 40 images in 360/360 spherical panorama, 3000x1500 resolution (IIRC, not at my workstation now).
Comparable to Dosch, although slightly cheaper.

Sachform volume 1 quality was at least 100 times better than Dosch hdri skies.

I have the Dosch HDRI Extreme hi-res volume, which is very nice - decent resolution and a reasonable amount of variety.
I haven't tried the Dosch HDR Skies, Nature or Chrome & Studio volumes. I had a look at them but thought there were too many images which were basically the same, and didn't want to spend $hundreds on only a couple of 'unique' HDRIs. What didn't you like about them?

I am curious too, Third_Eye. at 100x, your position regarding the two is pretty clear. Any reason for such a strong endorsement for sachform over Dosch?

The light range was really really low, you could basically obtain the same results with a jpeg. Best ones i've tried from that point of view are Debevec's so far, very wide light range, which allows for a lot of control. Sachform maps are good too.

Sachform is great....
I own Volume 1 and when Volume 2 was announced I ordered it immediately. Producing HDRI's of this quality is a huge undertaking and the set is worth its weight in gold (they are also available in EXR format for the ILM fans out there)
The HDRI's have excellent range and the registration is clean and clear.
Also, the disks come with an excellent HTML based browsing utility with exposure and 360º panoramic previews.
Oh... and you get the HDRI's in full colour and greyscale.
*highly recommended*
