I was looking at http://www.anim8or.com/ , before the free personal edition of Motion Buider was offered.

Anim8or seemed like an easier solution to Blender, Don't get me wrong I want to learn Blender, but ouch, what a learning curve.

anim8or is fairly easy to figure out and theres some good tutorials for skinning and bone rotations on bobbit's site in the resource section. I just downloaded the free motion builder also just to see what cool stuff it can do. Theres another program called character FX it's not free it's shareware for 30 days and 15 bucks to register but it looks like it was pretty good for the price. I think art of illusion has animation also and is free if not it has a pretty good renderer. Or you can try blender the no brainer but since I lost my mind along time ago and can barely create a cube in blender lol. Actually blender is not that hard to learn as many blender users will tell you. It just seems to require to much reading when I could be actually spending hrs modeling in wings.

To create a cube in blender:

Press SPACE BAR
Click on ADD
Click MESH (right besides ADD)
Click Cube
Ta Daaa!! and by work of magic a cube is done!!!

To do something usefull with your new cube remenber to exit the so-called edit mode (by pressig TAB). If you can see the vertex that make out the cube then you are still in edit-mode.
:wavey:

I think the most odd thing for people new to blender is the fact that all key strokes are relative to the window were your mouse is when you press the key. For instance, to create the cube your mouse pointer should be somewere within the 3D grid.

Many people complain that 'Blender is nuts, press a key and it will do one thing, press the same key again and it will do something complety different'. Well pal, where was your mouse pointer the first and the second time you pressed that key?
