i watched a tutorial video that talks about setting up uv's for an object

during one part, the instructor selects some edges of his poly object and goes to edit polygons > texture > cut uv's.

the area is then seperated from the rest as a seperate, movable set of uvs that he then moves in the uv editor.

however, whenever I try this, nothing happens. It doesn't appear to be seperated.

can anyone please help? this is really frustrating me, becuase I'm probably making a stupid mistake :annoyed:

thanks

Make sure the edge you select will create a shell, either it forms a close loop of edges or if it is on the boundary then the boundary edge should be assume as part of the loop too.

Since it will cut exactly in the same place sometimes it is difficult to grab the new shell, usually what I do is to pick one UV that is on the main shell, do select>Select Shell which will pickup all the UV in that shell and move it away, so I could see the new cut.
Pick one UV on the new cut and do another select>Select Shell and now you can move the new cut every where on your UV space.

Actually if you remember exactly which face in the new cut, you could select the face, and convert your selection to UV (select>convert Selection to UVs) and select shell.
