When I am setting up the bones to do facial animation, such as moving the jow what is the best way to do it? By-the-way this is just a simple head created to help me get better at character animation.

Thanks,
Geoff

looks nice, but i think, you'll need to work a little on it before he's ready to animate. i think, especially the corners of the mouth need work. you'll have a hard time to close this mouth, i guess.

could you post a wire?

what version of cinema are you using? do you have a chance to use mocca? you'll never want to go back after you've worked with it.

but if you want/have to use bones, here's how i've done it in the past.

weight the points of your mesh and restrigt certain bones to certain weightmaps. i'd split up the entire face in left and right half, this way you'll have more controll over the different expression that you want your character to have. an example to set up the mouth would be:

left upper lip, right upper lip, left lower lip, right lower lip, left corner of the mouth, right corner of the mouth, entire upper lip, entire lower lip

hope that gives you an idea...

you could also do a search in the forum. we had a discussion about this way back (6 month back? maybe even more?) where i uploaded some pictures of how i've set up a mouth with bones...

I know that this wirewire will look awful, but its my first try. I do have mocca, just haven't gone throught the tutorials yet. I guess I will start there and then get back to you. Thanks for the help. I had to post the pic on my website, so head there and wait for it to load. Its done in flash so you will need Flash. And then its in my portfolio.

Thanks,
Geoff:thumbsup:

HE HE HE MacOSX-layout on your website and then a Windows-screenshot? ;) isn't this even the sound that you get when starting OS X for the first time? anyway...

well, the screenshot you've posted is with HN on, but i think, you could have some probs when modelling the different facial-poses. but as you've access to mocca i'd suggest to give it a try... you'll get good results in less time than with bones...

Yeah i have gone through almost all of the tutorials for mocca now execpt the last two. I get the hang of using Soft IK's instead of FK's, A HUGE LEAP FORWARD! The only thing is it seems a bit difficult to conceptualize the process of acually boning the face so that I can control it correctly. Does anyone know of anywhere to find out more about this? I know that I can most likely use the posemixer to eventually morph from pose to pose, but i need a beginners course on facial animation and the tutorials for mocca seem to lack the facial part.

Regards,
Geoff

P.S. I am adicted to MAC's and yes that is the startup music, I am just stuck with PC's cause I cannot afford to switch. That's life!:)
