Interesting composition and stylization ! However, I think using neutral grey for the character is not really a good choice since he doesn't seem to be integrated to the whole painting. Neutral grey creates a "hole" in the picture… Some coloured reflections on his body would make the whole painting look more appealing, in my humble opinion.

I know this is a lousy idea, it is disharmonic as you said, I'd have just painted the character alone whithout any background.
