View Full Version : rendering non-sequential frames
biliousfrog 12-11-2008, 09:51 AM I experienced a problem yesterday that AE CS3 would 'drop' frames when rendering with multiprocessing enabled. Every 5th/6th frame was black, about 30 frames in total.
I have a couple of questions:
Aside from disabling multiprocessing, is there another solution to this? I have an 8 core workstation and have changed one of the AE files to only use 6 cores as per Adobe online help.
Is there a way to render non-sequential frames aside from manually rendering single frames? This is what I did as it was an urgent job but it would have been great to enter comma seperated frames as per Fusion.
Thanks

You could drop your comp into another and apply time-remapping to it (sans frame blending, hold keyframes and with proper full frame increments. With some expressions this could even be automated (e.g. a text layer, where you input the required frames and the remap would adjust itself accordingly), in case you need this more often...

Thanks Mylenium, that would be a solution although quite a long-winded one. The expression setup is beyond me but might prove useful in the future.
I'm actually surprised that it isn't an integrated option as it offers a simple 'save frame as' command, I would expect that most people using that feature would require more than just one frame.

A script might be the answer - IDK if there is one out there though. Check http://aenhancers.com/
Found it:

Try the setup attached to this post (AE 7) for an expression-based solution. Instructions as per text layer in the project. Adjust sizes and durations as needed.

Mylenium - you are the man! Thanks for the expression!
You should write a book - really!
