Anyone out there know why 3D Max would not load properly? I am Using Max 5.0 on windows Me, with 128MB of RAM and a 1Gig pentium. Before I had this error I ran into a virus on my pc but I took care of that then when I tryied to get the programs running they all worked except for max. I also reinstalled max, and it only worked for about 3 days and they it would not load properly. I also reformatted the whole computer deleting every file max created during installation. If anyone can help Id appreciate it.

As I remember Discreet does not suport Windows Me. Only Win 2000 or XP. Try to upgrade your machine to at least 256 MB RAM and Win 2000. After that probably will be allright.

but he said it was working the first time... so the os and the ram might not be the issue. i once had to reinstall max because of some crazy ui issues, but when i reinstalled it and tried to run it, i would not load. i was a little mad at first, but i installed 5.1 update again, and it loaded up just fine.

I'm paranoid about Norton ANtivirus now. It killed a shared Autodesk DLL. Here's a thread I started earlier.

Well thus far I have done all the trouble shooting in the discreet website. http://www.discreet.com/support/max/faq/faq.php3 and nothing has fixed this problem.
Zarkos: Max works perfectly with ME I was even able to render 300 frames in less than 15 minutes. The problem began when I ran into a virus known as w32.pinfi I fixed this virus but then some programs went crazy, like the computer would not fully reboot, some programs would not load, etc. I fixed everything and the pc is working great, the only program that has given me erros is max,
Tex: Norton online security check (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/) is great but there are some issues when you install the program. In my pc the program would not load during reboot. Much like max.

PS: Next trial error is to upgrade max to 5.1

Then its probably something in registry file. In that situation I would prefer formating hard disk.

if your virus software repaired the 3dsmax.exe you will have to reinstall/relicense max. If a virus attacks your 3dsmax.exe when its repaired it is now altered from what c-dilla expects and will not run because of it. To save your license transfer it to your other machine, reinstall max, and transfer it back.

I had this problem a couple of times at work when we got infested with viruses.

I would prefer formating hard disk

he mentioned he already formatted his drive.

also, before trying the 5.1 update, try uninstalling max AND THEN c-dilla licence management system if it was corrupted. then reinstall it again, along with the 5.1 update. if you formatted, then i guess the registry should be clean too, so there is no need to dig into that, but you might want to delete all the strings and data that relate to c-dilla, discreet, max etc...

I'd suggest contacting either discreet support or your authorized discreet reseller. But then again, since you're using ME, they probably won't help you.

The biggest recommendation I can make is GET RID OF ME!!! Get 2000 or XP instead. Although max did work fine once on ME, it doesn't matter, it's a terrible o/s.

Oh, and quadruple your ram. 512MB at least.

I fixed the problem long long and I mean looooooonnnggggg time ago but i had no internet to let you guys know how i fixed it.

I had errors in the os memory itself so thats y the pc and max would work for only 3-6 days and then give me errors again.
I reformatted the drive again and had to "turn off" system restore so that during reformattting the old files would not come back up.. installed the new C-dilla version and max is everything is working as it should.
Im still running Windows ME and its working fine now i just gotta get me some RAM

thanks for you all your help.

Ya, ME rocks, stick with it. lol

ME was Microsoft's piss poor attempt to "bridge the gap" between users of win98 and win2000. It was slapped together and has been replaced by winXP. It should come as absolutely no shock to you that you have major issues when you don't load the software to it's current update, use a crappy unsupported OS, and run 1/4 of the reccomended RAM. It would seem silly to me if you were shelling out $3500 for a software license to not spend that extra $300 and get your system up to the minimum.
