View Full Version : Object: Big Axe
eAvatar 06-19-2003, 07:42 PM Big Axe indeed!
Thought I'd through this up now that I've finished modelling and basic texturing. It's for an animation I'm in the early stages of.
Thoughts & Crits welcome!

nice axe, it instantly reminded me of an orcish axe in warcraft III
crits:
-there seem to be some mistakes in the opacity map in some areas in the blade's edge
-im not really digging the strings on the handle, it would be very uncomfortable if i was to hold it in my hand.
-i think the handle need some "special" details, instead of it being a cilinder with a texture

Thanks for the reply! Know what you mean about Warcraft III, although I was thinking of the Barbarian in Diablo II :)
Umm, actually there isn't any opacity map, just nicks boolean'd out of the mesh. Not sure what you mean here?
Yup, the handle cord ain't looking too good, may need to do a re-design, although it's designed to be used with one hand on the lower grip and one hand on the upper one, but yeah- a case of of more thought required...
Cheers, Steve.
great stuff!!!! you might wanna make it sharper though, cos the render makes the axe look kinda blunt. The bump and texturing is superbbbbb!!!:applause: :applause: :applause:

Ok, quick update, re-designed the handle & tweaked the gold/brass textures:

Might need to tweak the blade maps, to shiney the edge up a bit...
Anyway, fire away!
Cheers,
Steve.

No worries. BTW should have said before, done using Max 5.1 & Photoshop for the textures.

Steve.

Go on avalon, tell me what you really think! :)
Seriously, thanks for the comment, but any criticism & suggestions from anybody would be helpfull as well!
Still need to redo the blade maps, and perhaps touch up a few details - almost there!
Cheers,
Steve.
