Title: Pathway in the Plantation
Name: Lars Andersen
Country: Denmark
Software: Photoshop, Vue

Pathway in the Plantation

Mainly a vegetation / ecosystem exercise, trying to acheive a realistic look of an open forest landscape.

Vue 5 Infinite render.
All models & textures by me: Tree modeling with OnyxTree, other plants with "Grass" & "Twig" (G3D freeware).
A few corrections with Photoshop (mainly for colour / levels) plus framing & signature.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice! Just not much of the shadows there... You see, deep in the grass there is more shadows, almost darkness...

Cute scene, but sorry it is not realistic - rather looks like some painting.

The geometry certainly looks complex enough to mimic realism. I think perhaps a higher-quality render from Vue would help, as well as some z-depth filtering in Photoshop? Are you using Ambient Occlusion in this render at all? Sometimes it really helps to save out the scene under a different name and turn off texture rendering and let it sit for two days making an AO pass. I know the waiting can be tedious and non-productive, but I think the only gap between what you have here and "realism" would be an AO pass and possibly a grainy GI pass as well...

But it looks great as it is. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for this quite surprisingly nice welcome! I really appreciate the attention. So, actually I tend to agree with the critique so far,but I just opened my mebership and thought I'd try and post a picture. Didn't expect any attention really :)
But personally I like this one, but it needs a re-render with much deeper shadows, that's for sure.
Thanks again

Very nice! I like that meandering path and the trees in the background.

Great scene  , i like how the path has short grass growing on it. Maybe could do with harsher sunlight from more contrast in the shadows and a bit less fog. Could you post a link to the "Grass" & "Twig" (G3D freeware) you mentioned? I googled and I couldn't find anything but a games engine.
Also how do you export Onyx trees (pines) to keep the polygon count low for Vue?

You don't. Vue's instancing goes to work and optimizes the memory access, but the poly count for Onyx trees will always be high, if you want quality trees!
