View Full Version : free c4d object sharing platform ?!
peety 06-19-2003, 07:03 PM hey, is there any existing object sharing platform like www.turbosquid.com but free of charge ? ... i know there are some free objects on turbosquid but the cool ones are very expensive ... if there isn't any, it would be interessting to know whether there is interest ... because i am planning to publish such a platform, but if there is no interest it would be wasting time ... so, i am waiting for your comments :)

My advice is to go ahead and do it, as long as you've got time & it doesn't become a drag. If you set it up I'll certainly send some models in, assuming you want my dodgy old meshes ;-).
You could ask that users send their mesh and one small render (256x256 would be a start), that way you could just add the geometry, pic and link without too much work for yourself.
Turbosquid IS expensive, and I'm sure most users have got a stack of old objects littering up their HDs, which could save someone a whole heap of time.
So, in short - do it, dude!

There are also a couple of meshes and materials over at renderosity.com in their freestuff section.

...also at 3dcafe.com but they tend to be in .3DS and .DXF formats (and crappy quality too imo)

well ... if we will publish this platform there will be *.c4d files so there can be textures or even lights and background elements if the artists wants ... so the user don't have to use a phong tag to make the objects smooth (i had the experience with the free objects of 3dfestival.com, because there were no *.c4d files but *.3ds and *.obj and you needed to use the phong tag and make renew the textures)

I would be more than happy to supply you with some objects.

I've been working very hard to improve the downloads section on www.c4dportal.com and It's as good as final except for some small details which I will change later on..
Here are the features,
Features are:
=>Categories
=>Item preview (thumbnail)
=>Upload files along with a preview picture (large file sizes supported). No need for your own webspace.
=>Upload your demo reels and show it to your friends or companies (leech protected)
=>Most popular downloads
=>New downloads
I've decided that only members can download and upload stuff as I want to prevent unapproved linking to demo reels on other sites. (i've seen what cgtalk can do to servers when demo reels have been uploaded and shown here) :) It's very much the same system used on this forum to prevent people from linking to uploaded pictures on this server.
If you want to share some stuff please let me know. If you don't want to upload it yourself you can just contact me here and i will get back 2 you.
Your models can be uploaded with a description and a link 2 your own site along with credit information.

like the idea of c4d file format specific.
