Here are the first set of roughs. The God I'l illustrating is called Perun. Perun is described as a rugged man with a copper beard. He rides in a chariot pulled by a he-goat and carries a mighty axe.
I'm starting with Perun, I have some sketches of the he-goat and the chariot. I'll post them once I scan them.
so there may be some issues with this post here is a link to my blog:

Since the concepts are so small it's hard to say anything about them. Some of them sure do look interesting though. A question? He-goat, is that like a man-goat or what?

Sorry about the quality of the last ones, I updated it so it should be bigger now. here is the one I selected. I liked the idea of a Levitated head, it adds a cretin divinity to the character.
HumbleHenk - as far as a he-goat it seems to be just another name for a big goat.
thanks for looking
Wow! I love the concept of his head, really great idea. Can't wait to see more :)
Good luck

That looks great man. The levitating head is nice and the shape of the body is cool because it's not a typical hero-cake with big biceps, chest etc.

Coming along nicely. Lovely base design. A tip to make it more steampunk would be to add some victorian inspired ornaments, engravings and such here and there. Perhaps a few brass pipes too.

Love the proportions, as mentioned above, it makes a nice change from the typical 'hero' look...
I think there's enough of a victorian look without the addition of the vest - and it would be a shame to hide all those lovely gears ;)
Looking forward to seeing how this one progresses

That is some really neat idea...it would be cool to animate the guy...a head that detaches from shoulders and floats...hahahah..very neat!

hey so I'm having issue with the CGS posting system it seems if I reply to a posting I can only link to a image and my blogger account is not liking properly.
So I'm just submitting a new entry. which may make the previous one not visible on the thread. if you want to see what i posted before I guess go to the entry page.
cheers sorry for the inconvenience.

Here are the composition thumbnails. I kinna like 1, it has a nice divine look to it but it also looks like a post card as well which I don't like. I like 5 it has the three planes happening. and it has a upper class look to it. I also like middle one though it doesn't show the goat or the chariot it has a book cover feel.
let me know what you guys think.

No. 1 or No. 3 for me. I have a bad liking for dramatic but useless and action-lacking poses. For shame.

Strong concept sketches and striking design, I like it!
I really enjoy the thumbnail sketch marked "1", it has an overall pleasant composition and nice color play. I'm thrilled to see how this piece evolves.

So in the fist one I started with the back ground and the sketch of the position I liked for Perun. In this one I worked with the lighting. reworked and re sized the goat. I also knocked it back as it was a pure white and attracted to much focus. I added a bird on the side, I wanted to give it a old painting feel. Kinna like giving it a painting that illustrates a important moment in history.
" After the winter of 1678, Perun descends the alps to usher in the steam age. Pulled by his trusty, loyal, and very old he-goat, Dimitri."

Software: Photoshop
Here is the final image. I spent most of the last leg adding detail and fixing some lighting issues. Added in the goat's horns tunrs out I liked them. Aside from that just polished and polished.
Here is the link to who Perun is again on Wikipedia:

Thank everyone for the feed back and comments. Good luck to everyone.
